LOBITOS

Yaaaa.Another surfing installment by joelly.
This is Lobitos. Its a sick fukn wicked surf break in the northern desert of Peru.It is an old rundown american army base from the 60´s now occupied by the peruvian army. The waters close to the shore are surreally also scattered with hundred of oil rigs. All these elements make it like been in a scene out of a strange dusty horror film,it resemble´s a ghost town.My photo's are'nt the best from here as this is where i was without a camera. All these shots were taken by other people.
This plaec was real good, there were 5 surf breaks all within walking distance from where i was staying. There is'nt proper accomodation out here due to its remoteness, rather local people with house's and a hunger for cash put the surfers up that travel here for a small price.
I satyed with Jose Antonio who was a good bloke,he is also a christian surfer and had a classic copy of the ozzy bible that he gave to all ozzie's.His favourite sayings with a peruvian accent were,"i wanna hiiit the liiip", "hey kooook" and "im gonna drop you off"meaning im gonna drop in on you.He also was a human alarm clock in the morning screaming his friggen head off while showering in the freezing cold water. The bible was actually a good and funny read cos it was all written in slang, but once again i left unconverted.
All good though, the house was sweet, although it had a pipage problem and everytime the dunny was flushed (by hand with a bucket) i think the shit went straight onto the ground under the house. It smelt so bad you had to leave and go for a beer at the shop. Also the power would go on and off at it's own free will, the other thing was there is no kitchen there. All this were downfall's but the veranda made up for all.
I miss the good ol veranda's,they are so completely social and after two days of sitting on it having ale's in the afternoon sun the whole town would wave and say hello.
Now the waves.Five left hand breaks, all really really good.It ranged from a long point (batteria's) to a sucky tubing left (El Hueco, pictured), wich ran down to the main wave another tubing, wally sick left point (lobitos). In the bay next to the peir a left hander would form and race off it,sometimes tubing but heaps of fun. Then there is (Pascina's) only 2oo metres past that.A protected little consistant completely playfull and rippable left.hjuyt
All these waves were fast, warm, sand bottomed and good.he crowds were'nt a problem due to the amount of options. This place was soooo good with waves and sun all day.
It resembled cactus in the desert south oz,just more breaks.
I spent two or more weeks here surfing over three visit's and i got so many awesome waves.STOKED again on surfing. And again realised that my life is real hard.

LOST CAMERA

Sorry but no more photo's.My camera is gone.So shattered and had some great photo's on it that i may never get to see.
Its weird to think that in peru everything is dirt cheap. One dollar feeds, one dollar cd's,cheap cars and petrol,8 hour busrides for 3 ozzy dollars, cheap wetsuits,2 dollar accomodation, yet for me to buy a shitty friggen digi camera it costs more than home.So i dont know what to do as its simply out of my price range.
If anyone finds a digi, send it to me.
So you'll have to use your imagination in picturing my storie's.

LA TRIBU

Luis,mi amigo from huanchaco also has a bar in town named LA TRIBU.
This bar is the coolest ever and would be a dream to own in oz.Although it would probably be shut down due to bullshit regulations after one night due to the lack of rules, barefeet, pot smoking, noise, made up prices, toilet and dangerous goods hanging from the roof.
In my book its all safe and good and these things are what gives it so much character and is one of the best bar/lounges i have seen.
Its full of couches, the lights are dim and the music is worlwide. There is art on every wall, luis's creations from driftwood line the roof and there are also instruments galore for the muso's,which usually come out everynight for jam's with people from all over the world. There is even a didgeridoo there.
On every table is a game, ranging from cards to jenga and of course chess. Also there is that table soccer game, cool fun.
Most nights are filled with luis,me and others playing shithead (the international card-game) for dares.Usually to dance to gay music and look stupid in front of everyone or a shot of harsh liqiour. One night the dare was to kiss brocks dirty bare feet that were allmost black and i bloody lost-aquiring the nickname "Mr Kisses".
Evey now and then luis ups and leaves leaving me to run the bar, yeah good idea.Sometimes its hard understanding drunk spanish speaking people but yeah, its a real fun place with so much style and character, wish i could have a la tribu in oz,maybe out the back of my house.

DOG ON THE ROOF

funny stuff the peruvian secuirity.
Here people keep wild barking dogs on their roof to protect the premises from the robbers. Its a damn good laugh when you walk around town and every second house you get the shit scared out of you from a dog going crazy on the top of a roof.
Nothing a little rock does'nt fix though.
Im actually glad they are on the roof as dogs here carry rabies and its not good if ine grabs ahold of you.
The other secuirity here is also interesting but more spread through central and south america.
As most house's are built from brick they tend to also have six foot high brick rendered fences out the front, (thats only if they dont have a dog on the roof)
Now on the tops of these fences are the sharpest bits of broken bottles.
They are fixed in with cement pointing upwards. If you attempted to climb it you would get completely shredded. It just looks scary.
So who needs secuirity camera's and ploice.Dogs on the roof and jagged glass= simple and effective
